The Cross the UK BEL Qualification is led by Michael Fenwick. Michael is an experienced Mountain Leader registered with the MTA who has led the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in schools for over 10 years. As a qualified teacher and assistant headteacher in a large secondary school his experience and delivery help to make for an excellent learning environment where candidates experience rapid progress and success. The qualification is based in the North Yorkshire Moors and Dales and venues may be adapted to suit the locations of participants.
What is it?
The Level 3 Basic Expedition Leaders award is a nationally recognised qualification (Sports Leaders UK) that trains and qualifies teachers, youth workers and other members of the community to:
Lead walking groups in lowland countryside
Teach the knowledge and skills needed to undertake a day walk
Have responsibility for others, while leading a day walk in the countryside
Plan and lead overnight base and mobile camps.
You enjoy walking in the hills.
It is the minimum qualification required by many Operating Authorities for those wanting to train and lead groups on The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
It counts towards the volunteering section of The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
It counts towards the skills section of all three awards in The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Excellent for PE teachers as it can be used to help gain confidence to deliver hill walking which can be used in the GCSE PE Activity section to gain marks for those students who are need an additional area for their practicals.
